5 Reasons To Love The Babe Of Bethlehem

Babe of Bethlehem

No baby has ever been born carrying these credentials right from birth.

If it weren’t for the miraculous conception, the surprise tour stop of heaven’s angel choir to a group of sleepy shepherds, the mysterious arrival of Eastern wise men or angel visits to both Mary and Joseph … the birth of Jesus would be just like the birth of any baby.

But God didn’t orchestrate the arrival of just another baby boy on that Judean night. He was the most longed for and anticipated child ever to come into this world. This was God Himself wearing swaddling cloths and listening to the night sounds of farm animals He shared quarters with.

Although baby Jesus wasn’t wearing a halo above his head, and though He probably cried to alert his parents to his needs (sorry “Silent Night’s” ‘little Lord Jesus no crying He makes), and probably not sleeping through the night at first… this was no ordinary baby.

There has never been another child about whom it was said:  For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.Colossians 2:9 NLT That’s hard to comprehend – that seemingly helpless newborn carried all the attributes of the Creator. All his power, mind and purpose resided in this tiny infant who had yet to utter his first words or take his first step!

As we worship the Christ of Christmas this year let us be clear about this: we need what He provides. Not just a bit of it, but all of it. Ancient prophet Isaiah foretold the coming of Jesus and gave us a description of names He would carry.

… and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty

God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 KJV

  • He must be Wonderful because we need someone in our lives who is more than just ‘nice to be around.’ He must take our breath away with his character and presence.
  • He must be Counselor because we need someone in our lives who has already walked where we walk and understands the emotional demands of living in an often tragic and disappointing world.
  • He must be a Mighty God because lesser care and power are not enough. An ‘adequate deity’ won’t get the job done.
  • He must be the Everlasting Father because we’ve had short term care before in our lives; we need someone who will go the distance with us and be prepared to spend eternity with us.
  • He must be the Prince of Peace because life and its pounding drive and excessive demands rob us of internal peace and steal contentment and satisfaction.

This week, don’t settle for anything less than what this amazing Baby offers!
