God Still Makes House Calls

God's house calls

God’s care has always been very personal. He knows your needs … and He knows where you live!

Before we went to  hospitals, doctors’ offices and urgent care facilities, the doctor would come to us. Honest!

It sounds like something from a galaxy far, far away but it was actually a common practice until the early 1960s when 40% of patient/doctor meetings took place in the patient’s home. By 1980 less than 1% of us experienced this personalized attention.

It’s interesting that today the practice is beginning to gain some momentum again. But God has been making house calls ever since the birth of his Son.

There’s a central doctrine that states that God is omnipresent. That simply means that He is capable of being everywhere at the same time. I’m not challenging this core attribute of God. But as He enters this world in human form He illustrates physically what He has always been capable of doing spiritually. He can make a personal house call.

In the night of the Nativity some may think that God aimed poorly. He missed the inn and hit the stable. But He knows exactly where his presence is needed!

He visits Peter’s home to heal his ailing mother-in-law (Matthew 8). In John 2 Jesus visits a home for a wedding celebration and miraculously turns water into quality wine meeting an important need of the host family. In Matthew 9 Jesus visits a home to deal with a young girl’s sickness that has resulted in her death. He speaks new life into her and returns her to her parent’s love and care.

And in Luke 19, Jesus invites himself to the home of a man with enough interest in Jesus to seek him out … even though it was from a distance as he clung to the branch of a sycamore tree. That evening Zaccheaus had a meal with Jesus that changed his future.

It’s good to know that in our hurts and heartaches … our pain and suffering … at a time of fear and peril in a world out of balance. that relief, healing, comfort and guidance are all available.

The further good news this week is that you may not have to leave your home for any of it, because God still makes house calls!

Have a joyous Christmas as you celebrate his availability in your life.
