It’s Not That Hard!

Difficult?
It Can’t Be That Hard, Can It?

I have no idea why some people think that living the Christian life is so tough. If you know how to manage it, it really isn’t all that big a challenge. Consider:

– Humility is relatively easy, as long as you can brag about it to somebody.

– The new life is not difficult to live if you can keep some of the old life, too.

– Loving others is really a snap, as long as you hang around great and loving

people.

– Patience comes easy – just so you don’t have to wait for it.

– Being a giving person isn’t much of a challenge, especially if you have a super

abundance and won’t miss what you give.

– Living in peace doesn’t come hard, as long as you can be stress less and hassle-

free.

– It’s extremely easy to forgive as long as no one crosses you or hurts you.

– Obedience comes easy as well, as long as you aren’t asked to do something

unusual or particularly difficult.

– Daily devotions aren’t hard to do, as long as they keep making those little boxes

containing tiny cards with a verse printed on each one.

– Even that ‘servanthood’ thing can be handled – just as long as you’re not treated

like one.

On and on it goes … looking for an easy way to live a life that God said would be challenging. He promised there’d be dips in the roadway of life with potholes, detours and switchbacks. We still expect an empty freeway.

He says we won’t always be well-liked yet we still crave affirmation from everyone. He declares that joy comes from giving from the heart, while we look to give from an over-flowing checking account. He says to pray when it’s hard and we wait for a perfect environment. He reminds us that we are to regard others as above us, while we keep glancing to see who’s below us.

This week, remember – this ‘looking-for-the-easy-way’ brand of Christianity does not distinguish us from those who aren’t interested in seriously following Christ. Pay attention to who it is you’re really living for. And if it’s primarily for yourself, then God isn’t getting much of you to work through!

May you be joyful as you journey with Him!
