From Mess To Message

Mess

When everything old becomes new – Someone deserves the credit. It’s not you!

“ As the Scriptures say, ‘No one is good—no one in all the world is innocent.”

No one has ever really followed God’s paths or even truly wanted to. Every one has turned away;

all have gone wrong. No one anywhere has kept on doing what is right; not one.’”

Romans 3:9-12 NLT

If we’re honest with ourselves (and if we aren’t honest with ourselves we will never be honest with others in our lives …) we’d all admit there are parcels in our lives that were a mess. There are past mistake we made that eliminates all of us from the ‘Mr. or Miss Perfect’ competition.

The imprint of failure is like a watermark engraved on every person who has ever lived. And since we’ll never win any award that has the word ‘perfect’ in it we should all drop out of the competition, admit our imperfections, take stock of where we were when Jesus found us and begin formulating our testimony of moving from mess’ to having a ‘message.’

If we had messed up, lived a lie, broken God’s heart and the hearts of those around us and had managed to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps it would be one thing. But none of us has made that transition from failure to faithful, from guilt-ridden to forgiven, from defeat to victory by ourselves. It always and forever will take the help of Almighty God.

There’s not enough self-help books in all the libraries in the world to pull off the rescue we have experienced. No amount of therapy, rigid self-discipline or help of well-meaning friends could have helped us get from who we were to who we have become.

So this week look back long enough to recognize the severity and potential consequences of the messes you managed to get yourself into … then give credit where it’s deserved and not only be willing to share where you’ve come from, but tell Who got you where you are today!

God’s goal isn’t to make you look good … your goal is to make God look good!

“Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story— those he redeemed              from the hand of the foe,” Psalm 107:2 NIV

“He sent from on high, he took me; he drew me out of many waters. He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me.” Psalm  18:16-19 ESV
