Fools Don’t Win!

God and fools

Disregardiing God always leads to foolishness … every time.

And so I insist—and God backs me up on this—that there be no going along

with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd. They’ve refused for so long

to deal with God that they’ve lost touch not only with God but with reality itself.

They can’t think straight anymore.  But that’s no life for you. You learned Christ!

 Ephesians 4:17-20 The Message

I thought the Apostle Paul had gotten to my newspaper before I did … figured he had turned on the 6:00 am televised news while I slept in. He had read my mail … was explaining my angst. This is not the world nor the people I expected to cohabit with!

They have not only lost touch with God but with their minds as well. “What are they thinking,” I ask myself daily. Have they lost their senses? Their ability to reason? Are they not able to connect the dots and see where their thinking is taking them (and us)?

Claiming themselves to be wise without God, they became utter fools instead.”

Romans 1:22 TLB

Yet I should not continue being surprised, for no one leaves God out of his or her life without eventually playing the fool … entering The Twilight Zone … going off the deep end of the pool with no swimming skills or life jacket. No one. And then bad things happen: They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy.” Romans 1:31 NLT

Applause for standing up for the unborn becomes ridicule and increasing persecution. Traditional views of morality are challenged and punished. Society’s fabric begins to rip!

When leaders play the fool, they generally take the people with them as hostages.

But God cannot be derailed by the foolishness of men. Truth is never defeated by lies. There is an ending to this sad chronicle and we are about to see it. Notice this:   “Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.” 1 Corinthians 1:27 NLT

We are moving into a time when those considered foolish will shame those who pretend ‘being wise.’ And those of us considered powerless will bring shame on those who believe themselves powerful.

This is the moment when we, with humility, take a stand and allow God to use us to bring healing to our land. Listen to his voice, especially note the love behind that voice. God is angry with the wicked every day … but he loves each one desperately. Take your next steps in sync with the Holy Spirit and be encouraged. Truth wins!
