The Loudest Voice

It’s the world’s noise that keeps you from hearing God’s still, quiet voice. And you really need to hear His voice regularly!

What’s the loudest voice in your life right now?

I can hear you parents of ‘small people’ yelling out the name of your most vocal offspring!

That could very well be true, but there are many more loud voices around us every day.

  • How about the tabloids in the super market check-out line? You know, the one picturing famous and beautiful people. It turns your head and loudly informs you that if you don’t buy it, you will never know the ‘far-less-than-critical’ stuff inside.
  • How about all the ‘free ads’ arriving with our legitimate mail, all which loudly proclaim our need for things we had never really thought about before but now are told they are indispensable for our future happiness and security.
  • And we dare not ignore the news, be it cable, printed or talk radio. This is not a political issue because any news gets louder the more we listen to it. Any purveyor of news knows that if repeated enough and loudly enough, it will ensure survival for them in their own ‘dog-eat-dog’ medium.
  • For some, the voice in their heads telling them things like: “You’re a loser… always have been and always will be! You’ve messed up so many times, no one expects anything more from you.” Or “You don’t deserve anything better than this.”

Obviously, the list could go on for many pages.

It’s a noisy world and Satan likes it that way. But that sets up a problem for those of us who follow Jesus, because He won’t talk over the noises we allow in our lives. And as much as He loves us… has a great plan for us and stands ready to help us through any and all circumstances we face living in a fractured world… He waits patiently for us to turn down all other sounds that drown Him out.

He has answers for frustrated parents. He has the correct formula for a successful business. He has just the words to put your greatest fears packing. He can tell you if you are to turn at that next intersection of your life.

For his sake and yours, turn down the loud voices, at least for a period of time every day. You have a wonderful Father and He would love to share his love and counsel with you.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,

I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 ESV
