It’s Not Your Fight!

God never promised that weapons would never be formed to use against us… He just said that none of them would prosper! (Isaiah 54:17) THIS IS HIS BATTLE… STAND STILL AND WATCH HIM FIGHT.

It’s happened very quickly and being older gives better perspective to the changes.

From Christianity in the United States having solid footing in the culture, it is now considered non-essential and even dangerous. National appreciation for the Word of God has turned into a banning and disrespectful despising of that Word.

We’ve gone from people who used to talk things out into a culture of people who only shout others down. In other things we have witnessed a former calmness and pace of life turn into a frenzy of blazing speed in spite of an unknown destination.

It’s safe to say that in spite of technological advances around us, our relational situation has taken a deep and fractured turn for the worse.

If we exhibit any decorum, decency or deliberation we are quickly run over and into the ground.

We are afraid of what may be coming… but we assume that it will not be good!

So what do we do when we’re at a loss for words or solutions? What can God tell us to get us through times when we feel that most people around us are enemies and are coming to take control of our world and instill national chaos and hopelessness?

Jehoshaphat, Judah’s king had just heard that the armies of three countries are about to invade their land. They are hopelessly outnumbered (although God would love to disagree with that analysis!) and in II Chronicles 20 they are praying for God’s intervention.

In King Jehoshaphat’s prayer he admits, “We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us.” I have a general idea how he felt. I sometimes feel like we need to circle the wagons to make a last stand… only somebody forgot to bring the wagons!

But then Jehoshaphat added the words at the top of this devotional. “We don’t know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” This is what you do when you are unsure of what to do!

In these apparent tough times, God isn’t concerned about numbers, threats, labels or anything else. He knows his plans for us and is determined to see them enacted. God doesn’t lose battles – never has and never will. This is the Church’s finest hour with a Savior who will lead us to victory. Don’t despair.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Exodus 14:14 NIV
