Who Cares?

There is not one ‘unloved’ person in the world. Never have been and never will be. God simply doesn’t grant life to ‘unloved’ people.’ All are wonderfully loved by Him!

Years ago, I was asked to speak in an Asian church in Los Angeles. Working at that time for a mission organization, I was anxious to share a message about people caring for the unreached. My sermon title was: “Who Cares?”

As I parked and walked up the front walk, I saw their reader board for passersby to read it. It read “Sunday morning speaker Paul Walterman” with “Who Cares” directly below it. If you’re like me (and I know I certainly am!) we like to be liked and feel like we have something to give to those around us.

Although their placement made it look like they couldn’t have cared less about me coming to speak, I find myself smiling at that memory every once in a while. The Spiritual truth in this two- word question does deserve to be discussed.

Every person alive has pondered at times this complex discouraging question: When it comes to my life, my future, my happiness… who really cares? We who follow Christ find it hard at times to admit having this self-assessing discussion, even internally. We know Jesus cares.

It’s true that the longer we hang with Jesus, He becomes more and more authentic and we trust Him to tell the truth… eventually becoming firm believers that we are wonderfully cared for.

But what about those with no current relationship with our Heavenly Father? Who attempts to answer that question for them? Loving parents can do much to calm the “I’m-in-this-mess-all-by-myself’ quandary, and good friends can give adequate answers to this question. Also I’m sure there are licensed counsellors who can assuage this deep concern.

However, there is One who really needs to weigh in on the issue of caring and it is the Creator Himself. God has never made anyone as junk and He certainly never made any ‘throw away’ people. There is a high price tag attached to every person’s name and if He wants any message to be heard by mankind today… He wants all to know that He cares passionately for each one.

Getting this strategic message across to people will take a concerted teamwork effort between God, His Holy Spirit and all of us who know Him. For us to ignore anyone – from homeless to well-heeled, is to help convince them that they really don’t matter as much to God as we know they do.

Find someone this week and with Holy Spirit prompts and the right words, put in a good word for your Heavenly Father who desperately wants all… seriously all, to join his loving family.

“For God so loved the world…” John 3:16 KJV
