Following Your Heart

Delight

When you delight in God, He puts his desires in your heart … and you both end up getting what you desire!

I have a close friend who is facing some major decisions in his life.

These decisions will affect the rest of his life … will provide him with either right or wrong directions. These are decisions that he must not get wrong. There are those in his situation who are so terrified of making the wrong decision that they make no decision. This is always a bad decision!

My friend sensed God telling him to ‘follow his heart.’ God can trust him to do just that because my friend trusts God’s heart. He not only trusts the Lord but takes “ … delight in the Lord.” (Psalm 37:4 NLT) And to those kinds of people the verse promises that God “ … will give you your heart’s desire.”

God never promises to give everyone everything they want. He knows we’d take that freedom and destroy our future in the process. No, He grants the heart’s desires to those who follow and obey him. There is safety in that kind of relationship with the Father.

But our hearts must be surrendered to God; if they aren’t they remain “ …deceitful above all things, and desperately sick;” Jeremiah 19:9 ESV  To trust a deceitful heart is to throw all caution to the winds and trust our future to the intentions of Satan who desires to rob, kill and destroy everything good and valuable in our lives. Never a good choice.

Total trust in God paves the way for making great decisions through life. Two favorite verses of Scripture for many of us are found in Proverbs 3:5,6 “Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].” Amplified Bible

If you are in a ‘decision-making’ period of life right now, be sure to check your heart. If it’s stubborn, proud, rebellious or frightened you may need the same spiritual procedure that God prescribed for his people through Ezekiel:  “I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed, not self-willed. I’ll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands.” Ezekiel 36:26 The Message

Trust the Father and He’ll trust you to make the right choices!
