A Fresh Heart Prayer Devotional January 2020
“Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places,
reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives.
When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were,
like sheep with no shepherd. ‘What a huge harvest!’ he said to his disciples.
‘How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands.’”
Matthew 9:35-38 The Message
We are surrounded by mountain-sized needs and opportunities. The world seems to be falling apart at the seams. Multiplied millions still have not heard one word of the Good News of the Gospel. What can be done in the face of seeming insurmountable odds?
Jesus said to pray. He said to ask the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into the whitened harvest fields. In spite of the fact that He’s the Lord of the harvest and that even the fields are his, He invites us to partner with him in this overarching task. It’s not only our responsibility, but our deep privilege as well.
Ponder: How often do you think about people who have never had access to the Gospel? Does their plight weigh on you, and if so, what do you do about it? We do not have physical access to many places in our world today, yet none can keep us out when we travel by prayer. What places or people groups have a special place in your heart?
