Getting Truth Back On Its Feet

In the midst of the turmoil, there is truth we must grab hold of. His name is Jesus.

Truth is not truth if it is not true.

Sounds logical, but a lot of people don’t believe that, or attempt to sneak past it.

You cannot manipulate truth and change it. Truth cannot be argued away. Ignoring truth doesn’t make it untrue. Each person cannot make up his own truth.

Truth is inflexible. You cannot change it by raising your voice. What was truth yesterday is still truth today. Truth cannot be changed through discussion. It is never arrived at by consensus.

Truth is not fluid nor does it decay with the passing of time. Truth is not always an easy traveling companion, but often imposes restrictions to our freedom. You cannot remove truth by swearing at it or ignoring it. You can rail at it, shake your fist at it, but when the dust settles…. it’s still there and it’s still the truth.

The reality is, truth is a critically important element in our lives.

And while we cannot bend truth, it will bend and mold us if we face it and grasp its implications for us.

Jesus is the Truth upon which all truth is formed. Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 NIV For anyone desiring a relationship with the Father, they must seek Him through the Truth.

For many, that is bad news in today’s tumultuous bullying by people on the streets who want no authority over them… especially God’s!  Eugene Peterson appears to have watched the news of the last two weeks. He quotes Isaiah 59:14 in The Message this way: “Mocking and denying God, not following our God, spreading false rumors, inciting sedition, pregnant with lies, muttering malice. Justice is beaten back, Righteousness is banished to the sidelines, Truth staggers down the street, Honesty is nowhere to be found, Good is missing in action. Anyone renouncing evil is beaten and robbed.”

May God give us the wisdom, courage and determination to see Truth returned to the streets of our cities. And how will it arrive? Through our intercession, sacrificial caring and our words of truth clothed in as much of God’s love as we can carry

“Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration,

encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace.

And the God of love and peace will be with you.”

II Corinthians 13:11 NIV
