Be Impressed!

God reveals his power in what He has created. It should send shivers down our souls!

Be impressed! Be very impressed.

Let’s take a journey across some of God’s neighborhood. Fasten your seat belts because we’ll be traveling at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second which equals 56 round trips between Los Angeles and New York City in one second. That means that in one hour you could make this round trip 120,000 times!)

The rays of the sun which just came out from behind a cloud, took 8 and ½ minutes to reach us at that speed and the light of the moon took a bit over a second.

Now let’s extend journey a bit further out and remember to take a lunch – we’ll be gone awhile. To get to our nearest star, Alpha Centauri would take 4.3 light years or 32,700 of our years. You will get hungry on this trip and die about 32, 650 years before it’s over.

Impressed? And we’ve touched only a particle of God’s vast creation.

Does this ‘wreck you?’ Does God’s greatness and power and control over what He’s created ever dismantle your comprehension? Do you ever just pull off the shoulder of life’s highway, gaze up into the night sky and mutter with awe, “Wow!”

Now the God who spoke 100 thousand million stars into existence and keeps them where He placed them asks us: “Is anything too hard for me?” As someone once said, “God loves to outrage the tidy-minded.” My tidy mind wants to understand everything and control everything. It stretches my faith to believe in this incredible God. (And He loves impressing us with his creating and stewardship of what He created.)

So… what’s troubling you? Fear, anxiety, anger, condition of your world? With a God who so brilliantly displays his power and might and after promising us that The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.” (Nahum 1:7 NLT) can you honestly find an excuse for doubting and despair?

God is moving into our world. He is strong, able, confident, trustworthy, dependable, knows everything, controls everything, is patient and loves us with an everlasting love.

And He comes to meet us at the ‘speed of love’ which makes the speed of light like a slow walk through the park.

Trust His great heart. He’s earned that trust.
