What If There Was No Resurrection?

It’s a serious question. There would be no foundation beneath your faith… actually your faith would be in vain.

From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that…

he would be killed, but on the third day

he would be raised from the dead.”

Matthew 16:21 NLT

What if God had only been able to pull off the crucifixion part of his plan, but couldn’t get his Son back from the dead on the third day?

Would it make much difference? What a silly question. Obviously, a God who could only fulfill half of his promise couldn’t be counted on to stand behind his other promises either. His would not be a triumphant Church, but simply purveyors of a very sad historical letdown!

Rejoice that the Resurrection is an established transaction and therefore, continue to claim the many promises that have been given to us. He has promised to:

  • Cancel your fear and give you the strength you need. Isaiah 41:10
  • Give you perfect peace when those around you are anxious Isaiah 26:3
  • Give personalized instruction and counsel on any issue Psalm 32:8

  • Give you an incredible benefits package… forgiven sins, healed sicknesses, a life redeemed from the pit, a covering of love and compassion, more satisfied desires and a renewed youth Psalm 103:2-5

Thank God for the finished work of not just the death of Jesus, but of his resurrection, too! Without the resurrection we would not have received all He has for us.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us,

who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son,

but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him,

graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:31,32
