God Is Brooding

God doesn’t hover because He has no where to go. He’s ready to bring order out of chaos and light where there was no light!

“… the earth was a shapeless, chaotic mass, with the Spirit of God brooding

over the dark vapors. Then God said, “Let there be light.”

Genesis 1:2,3 TLB

Even when chaos reigns and order is not yet to be found in what is formless and empty, God broods and hovers over what is to come. And when it comes it brings light in place of darkness and great hope in the midst of despair.

And I believe with all my heart that that’s exactly where we are at this moment in time. God is breaking in on our sin-depraved world and offering his salvation! His light is about to invade every part of our culture.

This is not a call to political allegiance… to one party or the other… to our individual views on where we are or where we’re headed. This is a call to every Christian to get prepared to enlist in heaven’s mission to bring a Savior into clear view to all willing to see Him in his role as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

“Well, I don’t necessarily see it that way” you might say. And I’d ask you who you are listening to. Where are you getting your glimpse into the future? From media prognosticators, from those who only promise that things will get steadily worse? Can you believe that God might have a plan in these closing days of history?

“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?”

Psalm 85:6

Restore us, O Lord God of hosts! Let your face shine, that we may be saved!”

Psalm 80:19

“I dwell… with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit
of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

Isaiah 57:15

There are at least 10 million prayer groups around the world claiming this promise from God: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

Dare to believe that the God who brought a valley of dry bones to life and turned them into a fighting regiment could do the same thing today. (Ezekiel 37)

Next week we will look at four responses to this challenge that will enable us to be ‘world changers.’
