Hey Siri!

What can happen when ‘the lady who knows everything’… doesn’t?

I should have been cautious following this woman’s directions, I really should have been. I had previously conducted this discussion with her: “Hey Siri, what is current water level in Coeur d’ Alene Lake since the snow melt?” Her immediate response was, “The distance between Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is 2,289 miles.”

Why I should trust this lady who supposedly lives (looking forward from somewhere near my car’s radiator) with directions? Sadly, after leaving our hotel in Cedar City, Utah on our way south we first drove a couple of miles across the I-15 freeway to get a cup of coffee and sandwich for our early morning drive. Getting back in the car I hailed her: “Hey Siri, get me onto I-15 southbound.” She proceeded to send me around several city blocks, through the length of a two-block shopping center and then left into a dead-end alley next to a grocery store. “Arrived at your destination” she proudly proclaimed!

It’s kind of pathetic how easily and thoughtlessly we turn many decisions in our lives over to many who are not qualified to give us answers… at least the right answers!

Each of us wants to reach the place where God has made plans to settle us. He is the great Director with the perfect heart for our welfare.

Getting the wrong directions can be spiritually hazardous

  • Don’t ask someone serving time in prison for embezzlement how to increase your net worth.
  • Don’t depend on someone to help you find a spouse who has just dismissed his fourth wife.
  • Don’t ask a guy with two black eyes to teach you how to box.
  • Don’t inhabit dark places while looking for light in your life.
  • Stay away from loud places when you are looking for peace.

Instead, rely heavily on God’s Word… a very good idea since He has ALL knowledge!

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.

 Psalm 32:8

Whether you turn to the right or to the left,

your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying,

“This is the way; walk in it.”

Isaiah 30:20

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

 Psalm 119:105

Not just anyone can tell you with certainty that you have reached your destination!
