Why God Recalculates

Fresh Heart For a New Week

I don’t make it a habit of talking to inanimate objects. You won’t find me conversing with fire hydrants, lamp shades or running shoes. I have nothing to say to swinging doors, stop signs or the tires on my car.

I do, occasionally, tell my tomato bush that it’s doing a great job.

However … the synthesized lady who lives in my car’s navigation system and I often communicate. It happens when I take a short cut that isn’t on her ‘approved’ routes and for twenty minutes she insists that I make a safe u-turn to get back to the route she has chosen for me.

But there are times when I have nothing but praise for her artificial intelligence. I will take a wrong turn or miss an intersection or get myself totally lost and far off the prescribed course. And then I see the word ‘recalculating’ appear and I know it’s going to be all right.

recalculating, recalculate

We all need a recalculated route at times!

She finds another route to the same destination.

Kind of like God does for us on our journeys. We run through a spiritual ‘stop sign’ or turn the wrong way at the right corner or fail to follow the given directions. We find ourselves lost and wonder “Can He still get me there from here?”

The answer? Of course He can. He got Jonah to Nineveh after a stubborn rejection of his instructions. He got Peter out of the slums of betrayal and back on the road of obedience. He redirected King David from adultery to righteous living.

This week be assured that God can get you to where you need to be, no matter how far off the map you may have gotten. If you quit arguing and let Him recalculate, He’ll have you back where you belong in no time.

“God, my God, I yelled for help and you put me together. God, you …  gave me another chance at life when I was down-and-out.” Psalm 30:2
“ (The Message)

May there be joy on your journey!
