We all need to choose …

“… and the powerful are not what they appear to be.”

Psalm 62:9 New Living Translation

 It is a truly epic battle! Two kingdoms opposing each other and each beckoning us to join their side in the conflict. There is the ‘kingdom of this world’ and the ‘Kingdom of the King.’ The first is led by the ‘god of this world’ … the other by ‘God Almighty.’ Their operating systems couldn’t be more contradictory. And each calls to us for allegiance.

• The former says that man is at the center of the universe … the latter says only God is qualified for that position.
• The former says that leadership is all about strength … the latter says that servanthood is what is required.
• The former puts self at the front … the latter looks out for others.
• The former can’t admit weakness … the latter knows to ask for help.
• The former gets ahead on that taken from others … the latter sows willingly into others knowing that the real accounting hasn’t taken place yet.
• The former believes you must keep to have … the latter knows that in giving, true riches are found and accumulated.
• The former operates in breathless urgency … the latter moves in quiet confidence under the Shepherd’s directions.

Those in God’s Kingdom use faith to see the value in living according to divine directives. The obvious isn’t always reality. There is another realm operating behind the one we easily see. As stated above ‘the powerful are not always what they appear to be.’

The Apostle Paul gives us a peek behind the scene at the manner in which God works:

“God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.” I Corinthians 1:27,28 New Living Translation

 This week I must decide if I want to side with conventional wisdom and go for the wise, powerful and important to get ahead in life. Or trust that He really can use the foolish, powerless and despised to move his agenda forward through my life.
