“Then Jesus asked them, “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures?”
Matthew 21:42 NLT
This pointed and embarrassing question is asked of religious people who should have known the answer!
He wanted them to understand that his Word had power in their lives today. In other words He (his Word) had already addressed a present day event in their lives. His eternal Word had already focused on their current state of affairs.
When we’re stewing over a problem without a solution and in our frustration we bring it up to Him, He asks “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5 NLT
Under unbearable pressure with no one even noticing and the attack growing stronger by the day… with hope out of the picture He asks, “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” I Peter 5:7 NLT
As we stumble in confusion at a fork in the road, Jesus queries “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? “The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.’” Psalm 32:8 NLT
I read recently of a beloved servant who had served his master faithfully, giving himself totally to his tasks. His master died and having no heirs turned everything he owned to this servant. However, the servant couldn’t read and continued living in his one room cabin putting the deed to everything he was to possess in a frame on his wall. It was all spelled out, but he was unable to read it!
Being able to read is not our problem. But taking the time to read and then appropriating what we’ve read… that’s where our answer to this question steers us.
There is too much going on in our world trying to tear us down, tear us apart and keep us from our divine inheritance. If you’ve ever needed every Word that your Heavenly Father has given you, it’s now.
You don’t have to ‘thump’ a Bible to extract God’s operating systems for your life… you just have to know it!
“When you got the Message of God we preached, you didn’t pass it off
as just one more human opinion, but you took it to heart
as God’s true word to you, which it is, God himself
at work in you believers!”
I Thessalonians 2:13 MSG
