The serpent’s still around and still an unwanted intruder in God’s garden!

Her name was Annie Besant and she was a force to be reckoned with in the late 1880s. She was a British socialist, theosophist and politician in India. She would have fit in perfectly with America’s hippies of the 1960s and 70s.

In the late 1920s she sailed to the United States with her protégé and adopted son Jiddu Krishnamurti. She had discovered him in India, had been impressed with his charisma and now claimed that he was the new Messiah and incarnation of buddha.

He would bring a revival of counterfeit religion to our nation. She had plans for him. As they crossed the ocean, he mesmerized fellow passengers. They were totally taken by him. Annie had scheduled an extended tour to introduce him once in America. But when the ship tied up in the harbor awaiting a morning docking, something went wrong!

The reporters who were brought to the ship for his first interviews found, not a charismatic, sure-of-himself foreigner, but a badly confused young man who had difficulty putting words to his thoughts. Something was interfering with his thinking!

The tour ended after a couple of embarrassing stops. What had gone wrong?

America was a different place then than it is in 2022. We were a Godly nation acknowledging God as Creator, Sustainer and loving Savior. Because this was the shared national disposition, God protected our nation from Satan’s schemes.

Scripture tells us that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” John 10:10 ESV

When Satan got into Eden that’s exactly what he did. But America had a spiritual defense system in place that kept him at bay.

That’s not the case today. In the mid 1970 I saw Juddu Krishnamurti back in America freely speaking on television. The thief had again gotten into the garden.

His fingerprints are on just about everything in our daily lives. They are not the fingerprints of an organization, political party or ethnic group… they belong to Satan. What are we to do as we watch our freedoms being taken, our financial stability staggering, moral price tags switched at will and fists being shaken at God?

The first man Adam was assigned to “shamar” (Hebrew for protect) the garden. His failure gave the devil authority. But we have God’s spiritual authority to overrule him. We must fight with prayer and fasting as we plead for God’s Kingdom to stop Satan’s plans. God wants to bless his people… would love to move millions more into his Kingdom of light and truth.

This is not the time to relinquish, retreat or attempt to negotiate. God wants the serpent out of our garden!
