WE CAN’T MOCK GOD …and get away with it!

mocking God

No one mocks God and gets away with it!

When it comes to obeying the law, most of us pick and choose.

  • I won’t text and drive, but I will drive 10 MPH over the limit
  • I wouldn’t think of running a red light, but will jaywalk occasionally

Some rules seem so flimsy, obscure or absolutely meaningless that they’re fairly easy to break. We break them with no apparent consequences. They weigh lightly on our consciences.

But some laws are impossible to disobey. They are immutable and carry terrifying consequences … every time!

Consider the “Law of Gravity.” Nobody violates this law without serious results. It establishes its parameters over every activity in our lives. It’s a law you can’t rationalize away. Break it and you always pay.

And how about God’s “Law of Sowing and Reaping?” Here is this law in print: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Galatians 6:7 NIV This is a law God designed and signed off on Himself. It wasn’t the result of a popular vote, nor given us through a court of nine men and women who based their decision on history or their own emotional verification.

The entire world operates under this law of ‘cause and effect.’ We can’t get around it or ignore it with impunity …  in any way diminish its effects. Every time we choose an action we are automatically choosing the results that go along with that decision.

– You choose slothfulness you get poverty.

– Decide to decimate relationships and end up lonely.

– Sow to the wind and end up in a whirlwind. (Hosea 8:7)

These kinds of actions produce the same results in individuals, families or entire nations. If we live beyond our means and spend what we don’t have, we reap devastation in our future. We see it almost immediately in our personal finances, but as a nation the results will be just as sure and just as calamitous.

We’ve been thumbing our noses at God’s moral law and as those actions grow in popularity and acceptance we assume we’ve either eliminated God’s control over the effects or possible pulled Him over to our view.

The most recent Supreme Court’s sneering defiance against the moral designs of God concerning marriage is a feeble attempt to mock Him. But He will not be mocked! His loving decrees are meant to give security to relationships … satisfaction to living … safety at all times … and uncompromising pleasure.

We don’t jump off the roof of a building and think we can break the law of gravity. And we don’t snub our collective noses at Almighty God and get by with it.

He loves us too much to allow us to make our own rules.

“Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments

are not burdensome.”   I John 5:3 New Living Translation
