Here, There and Everywhere
Three words… three possible locations and the third one sometimes appears exciting in its possibilities!
‘Here’ is where you presently are. It may be the results of ardent preparation and planning on your part – the gateway to a wonderful future. Or it may be the location where you discover that life isn’t really working well for. You’re surrounded by busted dreams and unfulfilled longings. You’d rather be someplace else.
For all of us regardless of our present ‘here’, there’s a subliminal yearning to be ‘there’, especially if the grass appears greener, there are adequate finances, and there is possibly a beach within view. We all share those quiet and deep yearnings.
However, we need to see these three words from God’s perspective and His overview takes in all the possible places we could be and what can be done when there. Because of God’s omniscience, He knows where He wants us to be, because that’s where we can do the most good to fulfill His will for our lives.
‘Everywhere’ could be anywhere except to God. He used the phrase “location, location, location” before any realtor got hold of it. Where we are is as important to God as who we are. One of His favorite prophets, Elijah, was vital to God’s plans for the future, but his present ‘here’ put a bull’s eye on his back from wicked King Ahab.
God put a new ‘there’ in his future: “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” I Kings 17:3,4 ESV
Location, location, location… where’s the best place to be?
God’s protection and provision were there… not anyplace else, certainly not everywhere else but the very spot God had prepared for him. If your ‘here’ isn’t working, ask Him where his ‘here’ for you is. It may just be your prepared ‘there.’
